Our Story

Kelley Sweat, owner and principle at Blaze A Trail Canine has had a fascination with dogs since she was a teenager. Her love and interest for dogs grew once she graduated from college and had the time to devote to owning her own dog. Kelley’s interest in dog training piqued when she rescued several high drive dogs and could not find a local trainer to provide the obedience training she wanted for her dogs. Her dream became a reality when she was able to attend Tarheel Canine Academy in Sanford, North Carolina and become certified in basic and advanced obedience training and was subsequently able to build and open her own dog training facility.

Recently Kelley graduated from Tarheel Canine Academy, a most prestigious canine training facility in Sanford, North Carolina, which required months away from her family. She was able to work hands on with many breeds of dogs in both basic and advanced obedience training every single day for several months.

Blaze

Blaze A Trail Canine is named for Kelley’s family’s first and most beloved rescue dog, Blaze. He was a loyal member of their family for 15 years and showed such amazing devotion to their family that he inspired Kelley to want to know more about training dogs to be the best for their owners.

Currently Kelley owns a Dutch Shepherd, Luna; a German Shepherd, Remy; a Belgian Malinois, Devi; a mix rescue breed ½ Mal ½ Shepherd, Shelby and two French Bulldogs, Louie and Lola. Kelley says the main reason she loves these type of dogs is that they never stop and their energy is contagious! She says she is addicted to high drive dogs because they never tire of learning or trying to please their owners and they are always a challenge.
